My name is Denise Rogers I am an Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury and Chiari Malformation survivor. Almost 4 years ago, my life changed forever when I became disabled after having 8 surgeries on my Thoracic Spine from T2-T9 to remove the arachnoid cysts which were compressing my spinal cord. Currently, I have a Cyst(s) to Plueral Shunt, which drains the CSF from the arachnoid cysts to my left plueral sac. I continue to do my best to stay active and enjoy being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, crafting, writing, and gardening when I can.
In my professional life, I have retired from Health Care with over 26 years of experience. I have worked in public health as well as in long term care and acute care. I have a B.A. in Sociology with an emphasis in Social Work. But my most important role is being a wife, mother, stepmother, and grandmother.
This blog is about doing everything possible to get my life back. Every day I am continuing to learn how to navigate life while living with an Incomplete SCI. It is about learning to live with chronic pain while disabled. It is dealing with depression while regaining self-confidence and learning to feel beautiful again at the same time as I continue to deal with doctors, insurance companies, medications, and treatments. Lots of prayer, family, and God help me get through it.
