My name is Denise Rogers. I enjoy being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, crafting, writing and gardening when I can. But, 2 years ago, my life changed forever. I became disabled after having 6 surgeries on my Thoracic Spine from T2-T9. I have a Cyst to Plueral Shunt, which drains the CSF from the arachnoid cysts to my left plueral sac.
Now I am learning to live with chronic pain, muscle spasms, loss of proprioception on my right side (waist down), loss of feeling in my right leg (temperature and sensation) due to an Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) of my Thoracic Spine and Chiari Malformation.
In my professional life, I have retired from Health Care with over 26 years of experience. I have worked in public health as well as in long term care and acute care. I have a B.A. in Sociology with an emphasis in Social Work. But, the most important role is being a wife, mother, step-mother and grandmother.
This blog is about getting my life back. It is about learning to live with chronic pain as well as being disabled, dealing with depression, regaining confidence and control ,learning to feel beautiful again, and all the while navigating medications, treatments and life. Lots of prayer, family, and God help me get through it.
